A little quiz

What do these people have in common?

They have all told me at some point that I am a terrible singer, in one way or another.

First it was JIll and Megan. Back in college we were best friends and college roommates. One day I am in the front room of our apartment listening to music and singing along. They come around the corner and say, “Please don’t sing anymore.”

The sad thing is I agreed with them. I know they were just protecting me from making a fool of my self, right girls? You said it because you loved me? :)

Next is Ryan…Well he has heard me sing, or try to sing, many times. He just says, “Lessley, some people can sing and some just can’t. It’s ok”.

Again, he also tells me this because he loves me, right?

When Eli first let me know he thought I was a terrible singer he couldn’t even talk. When he was an infant and he was fussy, I would try to sing to him to calm him down. He would fuss more.

If he wasn’t fussy and I was just rocking him and singing to him, because I thought I was being a good mom, he would get fussy.

As he got a little older if I tried to sing to him he would put his hand up by my mouth. Yeah, that is a sure sign that he thinks my singing is terrible.

It wasn’t until he was about 3 that he would let me sing to him.

And my latest little critic, Hallie, has also informed me that I should not sing.

The other day I was doing her hair and singing a little tune. Hallie said, “Mom, how come you sound so bad?”

I said, “What do you mean? How do I sound bad?”

Hallie says, “When you sing.”
Ouch!! I thought it hurt when Eli covered my mouth, but I think that if it she wouldn’t have sounded so cute, that would have hurt me more.

Needless to say, Ryan was laughing his head off!

So there you have it…you will NEVER hear me sing in public, because it has been confirmed: I CAN”T SING!

*But you better believe, when I am in my car alone, I sing at the top of my lungs, and I think I sound AWESOME!
