Oh the Irony!!

Lets go back to October 17, 2005. Ryan and I were on our way to the airport to go To Disneyworld with Ryan's family. My parent's were going to watch our dog Woody while we were gone. My parents live close to the airport so when we go out of town we usually drop our car off and one of my parents takes us to the airport. Well, on this particular Sunday morning I put our dog Woody in their fenced backyard, and my mom took us to the airport. Well, by the time she got home from dropping us off she looked for our dog and he had escaped. She searched for it for awhile, but then had to go to church. When she got home she looked some more. They never found him.

Well, Ryan and I land in Florida ready to have some great fun in sunny Florida. As we were waiting for our luggage Ryan's phone rings.

This is the conversation:

Ryan: Hello?

Lady: Hi. Do you have a dog named Woody?

Ryan: Yeah.

Lady: Well, I found him.

Ryan: Oh. My in-laws are watching him, let me call them and I will have them come pick him up.

Lady: Well, he is dead. I found him on the side of the road.

Needless to say, the first day of our trip wasn't the best.

Well, this has been a family joke that my parents killed our dog while we were on vacation.

Fast forward to March 2008.

My parents are going to Germany and asked us if we could watch their dog while they are gone. We say "sure" and then joke around saying, "what goes around comes around". And we all laugh.

They drop off Slinky, the dog, on Sunday. My mom tells me "She has been acting like she might be sick, so just watch her and if she gets bad you can take her to the vet." And she gives me the vet info.

Sunday-Tuesday Slinky is sluggish and acting kind of depressed, but she gets like that sometimes when my parents go out of town. And she has been acting old and slowing down a little lately so I honestly didn't think much of it.

Wednesday I was gone all day so I didn't see much of her, but I was told that the dog threw up. I thought great, I will watch her and take her to the vet tomorrow. Then Wednesday night she will lets say "threw up" out her bum. (Yes it was disgusting). And then she was really listless for awhile, but then got up and was acting "normal" again.I called the vet but they were obviously closed. I called them in the morning and they told me to bring her in at ten. At 9:30 I pack her up (she is totally listless again) and I head to the vet.

To spare you the details I will just tell you we didn't make it to the vet. My parent's dog DIED IN MY CAR while they were on vacation. I was shocked!! All I could think about was me saying, "what goes around comes around". Then I cried and thought this can't be happening, and this is just unbelieveable. What are the chances this dog chooses today of all days to go to little doggie heaven?

I called my brother to tell him, and of course he starts laughing (because seriously, what are the chances?)

My brother then met me at my parents house where we buried poor Slinky. (right next to our dog Woody).

The moral of the story? don't joke around with the phrase "What goes around comes around."

Finger nail polish

Eli has been obsessed with fingernail polish. He asked me the other day if he could paint Hallie and my toenails. I kept putting him off. Finally I told him he could paint Hallie's toenails. He got so excited. HE ran in my bathroom and picked out the"perfect" color and got everything ready. He actually did a pretty good job.

When he got done with hers, he asked if he could do mine. I didn't have time, so I told him maybe later. well, of course he pestered me and asked me about million times if he could do mine. When I told him he could, again he got so excited and ran to get a color for me. It was actually very cute to see him concentrate so hard on painting and making them look good. He didn't do quite as good a job on my toes, but he did ok for his first time.

Then tonight he asked Ryan if he wanted to pretend he was a girl, so that he could paint his toes. Ryan was a little disturbed by this, but said ok. JUST KIDDING! OF course Ryan told Eli that boys don't pretend like they are girls.

I don't know what brought this on, and why he is so obsessed, but I think it is quite funny.IMG_0972

She crawls!!

Tuesday Hallie decided to take the plunge. She started using those legs for somethng useful-crawling. She has been able to get herself into the crawling position, and rock back and forth for a few weeks now, but she finally decided to choose a night that I wasn't home to move those little knees to get her from point A to point B. Of course I am with her ALL THE TIME, but I finally choose a night to get away and that is when she made her move. I was only about 10 minutes away from home when Ryan called to tell me she was crawling. What a little stinker!

And after two days she has really figured it out. She can get herself wherever she wants. (Even though she still prefers to be right under my feet). She still gets a little tired when she is trying to go those far distances, and so she will take little breaks and just lay down, but then she gets right back up.

It is so fun to watch her move and explore.
She also does this funny little headstand thing.

Dreaded night turned fun night

Ashly, Lisa, Amy, Amy

This weekend Ryan decided to leave me for Las Vegas. Him and a friend went down to watch the BYU game. Well I am a big wuss and do not like to stay at my house alone. When Ryan leaves I usually go stay at my mom's or occasionally have someone come stay with me.
This weekend I stayed at my mom's most the time, but Ryan said that he would be back about 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning. I didn't want to stay the night at my mom's, because he would be home in the middle of the night, but I didn't want to be home alone either.
Lucky for me I have great friends who knew my prediciment and said, "Hey we want to have a girl's night anyway, so why don't we come to your house and keep you company." I told them the only problem was that it won't be much of a Girl's only night, because I would still have my kids. (because I have no babysitter, he's in Vegas, enjoying fun, games, and no kids).
They said "no problem, we don't mind". Hooray!
We started out our evening shopping at Roberts. (the kids were pretty good). Then picked up some yummy Cafe Rio, and since we had the kids (those darn kids again) and didn't want to fight them during dinner, we brought our food back to my house. We put the kids to bed, and then the real fun began!
We ate, laughed, rocked out, laughed, talked, laughed, pigged out on mini Charleston Chews, and laughed some more.
We were having so much fun, that before we knew it the garage door was opening, and Ryan was home, and it was after one in the morning. What awesome friends to stay so late.
Thanks guys for taking care of my wussy self while my honey was away, and still wanting to hang out even though I had to drag my kids along.

Thank Heaven for Playhouse Disney

As many of you know, Eli does not have much of an attention span. There isn't much that keeps him entertained for more than 2 minutes. But hallelujah I found something that keeps him busy, and he can do it all by himself-Playhouse Disney. He will sit and play games on that for as long as I will let him. Today I was able to get Hallie and I showered both of us dressed and ready for the day, and lunch made in PEACE! It was fabulous. Thank You Ryan for introducing Eli to the wonderful world of computers!

Jungle Jims, friends, and a little puke.

What a fun day(sort of). Eli and I went to Jungle Jims with a couple of my awesome friends from high school and thier kids. That place is actually pretty fun, but man those rides go fast for little kids. We hopped on the first ride with the kids-the carousal. Carousals are mild right? Not this one. This one was a little too fast for me-it made me a little queezy. After that we decided the kids can ride the rides by themselves.
After the kids had two funfilled hours of rides and spinning. We were watching Eli and little Will on the tops (I believe that is what they are called) and were saying "I think this is the last ride. Look how tired they are". So we decided we would go home after this ride was over.

Eli especially looked really tired with his heavy eye lids and his bobbing head. Then I look away for a minute, and my friend says "Oh, I think Eli is sick." Well when he comes around again I see they are stopping the ride, and sure enough there is my son with puke all over him. Lets just say that was a moment I didn't want to claim him. I think the heavy eyelids and the bobbing head were more of a sign that his Honey Bunches of Oats were on thier way back up. (poor Will will probably never want to ride on another ride with Eli again).

Right before the big spew!
So needless to say that really was the last ride of the day. (Probably for everyone on that ride). Eli obviously, unfortunately got his Daddy's gene of getting easily sick on rides that spin. ( Ryan has puked in front of me after spinny ride when we were dating. Now there is a blog post for another day).

Anyway, if you ever go to Jungle Jim's, and you want to ride the tops, I don't recommend you sit in any of the yellow ones. :)
