Who stole my Christmas Spirit?

I have to admit, I have no Christmas spirit this year. Usually I love, love, love Christmas. I love all the decorations, the anticipation, buying gifts, seeing lights, the music, and all the magic.

This year, not so much. I had all these great ideas of things to do a few months ago, and now it is here, and I have no desire to  do anything. It just doesn't feel like Christmas. Maybe, it's the economy, or maybe I am just lazy.

I barely got my Christmas cd's out two days ago, I haven't done one fun activity with my kids(yes, I know I am a terrible mother), I haven't wrapped one gift, I haven't watched one Christmas movie, and I only put my tree up because Eli begged me for days to do it.

I don't know what is wrong. I am trying to catch the spirit. It's just not happening. I think I need to try a little harder. Any ideas? What can I do to bring the Christmas excitement back into my home?

I haven't been in "the Christmas spirit" either. I took forever to decorate my tree, too. We've really downsized everything this year...'cause we think our kids need to learn more about GIVING, so it's been easier to shop this time. :o) I've tried to focus more on the true meaning...and it has helped me. I still need to bring you your birthday stuff, Lessley. I'm sorry. I'm telling you....I feel like I've lost my mind lately. Seriously....this has been SUCH a crazy month so far. I'm sure your holidays will be wonderful...and you'll love spending so much time with your family. Your kids will be adorable, as usual....and you will LOVE every minute of it. :o) I hope you're doing OK though! I loved the cake you made for Heather. Great job!! You're so talented!! I can't wait to see all your cute Christmas pictures. BTW, I'm super late getting my cards and stuff out. Maybe they'll reach everyone by New Years, at the rate I'm going! Miss you!

Hmmm... My Ryan can be a total scrooge every year. I have to BEG him to get the tree out of the garage each year. I agree with your friend Carrie (us Kerry's are pretty smart you know). Focus on your adorable family and the true meaning of Christmas. If all else fails, do what I do (no matter what time of year it is) BAKE COOKIES! ha ha. I have made (and eaten) more sugar cookies than I can count. Nothing says Christmas to me like fresh baked cookies, cut in cute shapes and frosted.
You could also just drive out to Fresno... I'll force my Christmas spirit on you... ha ha ha.
We miss you guys!!!!!! Merry Christmas! I'm putting your names on the "list" of who gets called when Claire finally comes. Stay close to your phone.

I think one of the big issues is that the retailers/radio stations/commercials start the Christmas season SOOOO freaking early that it gets old and even annoying.

I admit, I'm a scrooge, but the commercialism plays a big part in that.

Put some lights up, and listen to Dave Matthew's "Christmas Song", and just relax. I'm a bit of a skeptic when it comes to people complaining that Christmas is ruined by commercialism. Just like everything else, if you let what other people's take or opinion of what Christmas SHOULD be, it will ruin it for you. (This totally includes extended family members). You can teach your kids that the season is about other things than receiving, that's not a hard task. Keep it simple--don't do something that you're just not feeling. Remember what Christmas is truly about, and do something for someone else. You'll feel the Christmas spirit immediately.

I'm so with you! It's sad to say, but I can't wait for the whole thing to just happen and be over with!

It's weird but so many people I've talked to feel the same way this year. What's up with that?! I'm just not feelin' Christmas either this year. I think it's because I just have too many obligations and I can't just sit back, relax and enjoy it. Don't know but I do know that gorging on Christmas treat does NOT help (I've tried.) Merry Christmas, anyhow...
